Congratulations to School-based Technology Specialist Sofie Khalid-Schieber on being recognized as the March 2021 FCPS Cares Recipient of the Month for Region 3 by the Department of Human Resources. Congratulations, Ms. Khalid-Schieber!

Below is the write up submitted by a community member of the Mount Vernon High School pyramid.

I want to highlight Sofie Khalid-Schieber at Woodley Hills Elementary who, as a technology specialist for the school, has been going to work in person since August 2020 in order to help ensure that students and teachers staying remote were able to use their laptops and technology equipment, helping many, of the school's low-income students by going to them to help with laptop issues so that they could access virtual learning. Throughout the pandemic, many people in FCPS were at home or elsewhere teaching, etc. But staff like Sofie, who are committed to ensuring kids who often have other challenges have equitable access to classes, are so important. Her willingness to be at work in person throughout the pandemic makes it possible for others to stay home. Without Sofie and colleagues like her--often overlooked in the larger discussion--the virtual monster built by FCPS can't operate. Sofie and all of the technology staff in our Region 3 pyramid who have been working in person each day troubleshooting laptops and technology for teachers and students deserve *massive* credit, awards, applause, bonuses, etc. for being the glue that kept this all together.
