10 Reasons Woodley Hills Stands Out
Woodley Hills offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and clubs, to support well-rounded student development. The school is dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment and preparing students for success in high school and beyond.
Diverse Student and Staff
Our school is proud to be made up of a diverse student population where all ethnicities, races, religions, and cultures are respected and included into the Woodley Hills family.
Local Level IV Advanced Academics Program
Woodley Hills ES has a Local Level IV full time Advanced Academics program that is available for students in Grade 3 through 6 who are found eligible through a central selection process. Eligible students access the curriculum from the AAP Curriculum Framework for Advanced Academics in the core academic subject areas.
Young Scholars Program
Designed to identify and nurture students with high academic potential who may face additional barriers to access and success in Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) and courses. This may include students who will be the first in their family to attend college in the U.S., multilingual learners, students who are economically disadvantaged, and students who are twice exceptional.
Student Council Association
Student Leadership and voice is an important aspect of Woodley Hills ES. Students are encouraged and supported with taking on leadership roles in the school and sharing and implementing their ideas with support of the SCA sponsor and the administration.
Student Ambassadors
Student ambassadors welcome new students to the school and help them become acclimated to their new environment. They show them around the school and introduce them to adults who can help them if they need help (Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselors, office staff, etc.)
Peer Mediators
Woodley Hills has a peer mediation program. Fifth and Sixth grade students are trained to assist their peers with resolving conflicts peacefully without taking sides. This restorative practice strategy focuses on supporting children with improving their critical thinking, problem solving, in addition to communication and listening skills. It also emphasizes student voice and leadership.
Peer Buddies/Special Olympics
At Woodley Hills we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for all students, including those in our Special Education programs. We offer a range of specialized services, including classes for students with Intellectual Disabilities, an Enhanced Autism Classes, and an Early Childhood Class-Based program. Through these programs, we provide personalized support that empowers students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our Peer Buddies and Special Olympics initiatives further enhance the sense of community, encouraging students to build meaningful connections and develop essential life skills.
Purple Star School
Woodley Hills Elementary is proud to be recognized as a Purple Star school, a distinction awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. This recognition reflects our efforts to provide a welcoming environment, resources, and programs that help military families navigate transitions, build community, and ensure students succeed both academically and socially. We are honored to serve those who serve our country.
Character Education and SEL Focus and Assemblies
Woodley Hills integrates character education and SEL lessons into instruction throughout the day. Staff model the expectations and support students with learning how to respectfully interact with other students, staff and community members. Every other month students from different grade levels present a play as a reminder of the trait focused on for the month. Each month a student is recognized for exemplifying the designated trait by their peers and teacher.
Career Day
Woodley Hills hosts an annual Career Day and invites parents and community members into school to share about their career as well as cultural celebrations during the cultural recognition months, as well as planned SGA Spirit activities.
Woodley HIlls Elementary School is more than just a place of learning; it's a community where young minds are nurtured, and spirits are uplifted.
